Apak President and CEO, Tony Allen reflects on a landmark year for the company

2018 will be remembered as the start of a new chapter in the history of Apak as we move from Sword to Sopra Banking Software ownership.

Following 11 highly successful years with Sword Group and despite the turbulent times of the global financial crisis, we saw the launch of the re-platformed WFS, the establishment of Aurius as an award-winning UK banking platform and welcomed Sprint to our product portfolio. Combined this paved the way to our global expansion and the tripling of our workforce and revenues!

The scale and might of Sopra as a Group is impressive and this, along with their software DNA and strategic approach, makes them an ideal parent to take Apak to the next phase of its journey. The mutual respect for our history, culture and expertise has been evident from the first meetings and the potential of the acquisition is immense.

Business during 2018 was buoyant as we saw significant new clients and geographies added to our portfolio. We saw the launch of WFS into South Africa with both WesBank and Standard Bank, along with Macquarie Leasing in Australia.

Not only did 2018 see us provide Macquarie Leasing Australia with their Wholesale Finance Bailment Solution moving forward, but it also saw us make strides into the Asia Pacific region by opening our latest headquarters in Melbourne, Australia. The new office allowed us to expand the regional team and invest in new infrastructure with a new data centre to support our SaaS clients.

Looking forward, 2019 looks set to be another milestone year for the company as Apak celebrates its 40th birthday in September.

Over our 40 year history, we have developed from a small Bristol-based computer services supplier to a truly global business, full-service provider with blue-chip clients across 29 countries. Our journey has been achieved with much dedication, commitment and hard work from the Apak employees, but we could never have achieved this success without the support and trust of our customers.

In 2019 we will execute on the Sopra Banking Software integration process with a view to clearly articulating our global and local go-to-market strategies. We look forward to sharing this strategy at our biennial Global Wholesale Finance Summit in September when we hope to surpass previous successes with this unique commercial finance focussed industry-led event.

I look forward to working with the Apak and Sopra teams to build upon and ensure we continue our mutual customer-focused mission of providing “successful, long-term partnerships”.

We want to continue our aspirations towards global growth and expansion for 2019 and having Sopra Banking Software by our side, puts us into the best place to fuel the next chapter of Apak.

Thank you to everyone who made 2018 such a success and we look forward to making 2019 the company’s best year yet!
